Day one. 6.4 miles of walking the streets and sidewalks of Estoril and Cascais, Portugal. Recap of the day: World Series of boat racing (AKA Xcat racing), giant door knobs, surprising people when I start talking and I don’t speak Portuguese, “C” does not stand for “cold,” and no one drives in their own lane. Day two. 9.1 miles of walking around Belém and Alfama in Lisbon. Recap of the day: sidewalks are slippery when wet, sitting in the back of a Portugal police car is confusing at first but not scary, the weather predictions are not accurate, ice cream is everywhere, buy the umbrella when you have the chance, there is no such thing as slowing down while driving, if there’s no where to park it’s ok to drive on the curb, nothing is pronounced the way you think it is, I don’t understand why you are surprised when I speak English, and bananas belong on pizza. Day three. Today was a beach day. Recap of the day: I fit in with aviators and converse, sunscreen is really hard to do by yourself, everyone smokes, walking barefoot on cobblestone is not awesome but necessary when you break your shoe, the endless ice cream stands do not stay open very late, and I wish I could stay longer. To be continued in Barcelona…
